Ever wondered who picks the engines that go into the planes you fly in? Probably not, but imagine how important they are! Meet Joana, a mechanical engineer working for TAP airlines in Portugal. Despite being one of 4 women in her graduating class at university and often the only woman in her building at work, she is still a rock star.
When GIT Cameroon MD Laura Preston interviewed her, this is what she had to say:
“Women say they don’t want to study mechanical engineering because they think it is all about cars and getting dirty, but it’s so much more than that. Every day I make big decisions with big budgets, determining which engines our airline should purchase.”
Ironically, her job is about shopping, but a job that impacts thousands of lives of the people flying in TAP planes! Good thing she’s an expert!
